Legal and Good Practice

Do you want to make sure that your groups is doing everything right?  HVA can help you in a number of ways including:

 

Registering as a Charity

Book an appointment with a development officer for advice on how to go about registering with the Charity Commission as a Charity in England and Wales.  HVA also runs a course on registering as a charity which you should attend to understand the legal implications of being a registered charity. 

 

Free Legal Advice

Do you need free legal advice for your group?  HVA in partnership with Hackney Law Centre, HBV and Solicitors Pro Bono Group set up Hackney Legal Connections to provide advice.  Sessions are every two weeks and you will need to book in advance.  For more info click here

 

Insurance

Need advice on insurance for your different programmes?  Contact us for some referrals who support the voluntary sector

 

Equal Opportunities Policy

All groups should have an equal opportunities policy.  Do you need advice on how to create your own?  Do you wish to understand why legally you must consider equal opportunities?  Contact HVA for more information. 

 

Monitoring and Evaluation

Do you know what input, outputs and outcomes are?  Do you wish to apply for funding but do not know what happens next?  HVA will advise you on how to set up systems for effective monitoring and evaluation of existing and future projects.  This is central to continued funding opportunities. 

 

Quality Assurance

Health and Safety Policy

You will need to understand the obligations of employers and employees in relation to health and safety in the office and at external events / activities.  Contact HVA for more info.

 

Child Protection Policy

If you work with children / youth you will need to have a up-to-date Child Protection Policy.  For training and information on the law on child protection contac the HVA training team or Hackney Play Association.  To develop your group's policy contact HVA.

 

CRB Checks

If you work with or if your organisation runs projects activities for children, youth or vulnerable people you will need to consider whether you will need to arrange CRB Checks.  Click here for more info
