About Hackney Voluntary Action:

 

HVA is the the CVS (Council for Voluntary Service) and Volunteer Centre in Hackney, supporting voluntary and community organisations by providing general advice and support, training, fundraising, practical support services, Meet the Funders sessions, IT courses, equipment for hire or use in the Resource Centre, information services, volunteer development... and lots more.

 

Our Objectives:

·      To promote and support voluntary action and involvement, and community activity by individuals and organised groups within Hackney.

·      To promote good practice and so enable the voluntary and community sectors to operate more effectively and efficiently.

·      To provide support to the whole sector, ensuring fair and equal representation.

·      To enable individuals wishing to undertake voluntary activity to make choices based on sound information and advice.

·      To improve networking across the sector and promote openness and information sharing between voluntary groups and other partners.

·      To build capacity within the voluntary sector.

·      To enable the involvement of the whole of the community and voluntary sector in the development of the LB Hackney Compact.

·      Help with finding, and applying for, sources of funding

·      FREE Legal Advice

·      Access to wide-ranging library of information materials

·      Access to computers, photocopying, faxing and other practical services

·      Promoting partner organisations’ services through Newsletter and eNews

·      Comprehensive schedule of training including ICT, Fundraising, Organisation Development and Volunteer Management courses

HVA Opportunities for Volunteers in Hackney:

 

16-24? Millennium Volunteers (MV) is for you. MV is a national programme for 16-24 yr olds wanting to get started in volunteering. In Hackney, Emma C and Emma P will find you the right volunteering opportunity. Register with MV and you can count your volunteering hours towards national certificates and awards - great to put on your CV. You will also be reimbursed for travel costs to and from where you volunteer. Contact or call 020 7241 4443, extension 27 for more information.

1. Decide why you want to volunteer...

There are lots of reasons for volunteering. Most people feel that they gain more than they give. Volunteering adds to your life and is fun! Everyone can volunteer: young people, retired people, students, people with disabilities. You can volunteer in your free time, or for a one-off or special event.
