Mission Statement
HVA serves to represent and strengthen the community by encouraging volunteering, facilitating voluntary sector connections and developing voluntary organisations, working with them to deliver creative solutions to serious social problems.
HVA Objectives
HVA aims to:
- Provide core support services to local voluntary organisations and individuals
- Provide a diverse range of volunteering opportunities
- Engage in and promote partnership working
- Develop and facilitate learning in the community
- Work towards ensuring HVA services are accessible to all
- Promote recognition of Hackney’s voluntary sector for excellence
- Participate in Community Planning Process
- Participate in the Social Justice Agenda and promote active citizenship and social inclusion through appropriate partnerships
- Maintain and improve on quality of our services, by remaining open about our work, maximising our effectiveness through using our resources well and sustaining and expanding our services with strong financial management
Key Services
HVA is committed to facilitating and servicing community engagement and voluntary sector connections through promotion of partnerships; promoting good practice and enabling the voluntary and community sectors to operate more effectively and efficiently; enabling the involvement of the whole community and voluntary sector in the development of the Local Compact and promoting and supporting voluntary action and involvement
Information - on local volunteering opportunities, a database directory of local groups and other contacts, a bi-monthly newsletter and e-bulletin on voluntary and community sector news and updates on good-practice and policies, a reference/loan library of materials on voluntary sector issues.
Volunteer Development and Support Services - working with volunteers, supporting organisations to implement and manage volunteers programmes, running regular volunteer managers forums, provide, develop and promote wide range of volunteering opportunities, provide suitable volunteering opportunities especially for young people and minority groups
Training - provision of courses for local groups (including consultancy services and in-house training), assistance in the evaluation of training needs, supervision of trainees pursuing voluntary sector qualifications and information on other local, London and national training opportunities. In addition to providing training for our user organisations, HVA is committed to providing training for our staff and volunteers. HVA is an accredited centre for the Certificate in Community Volunteering programme (CCV).
