Hackney Voluntary Action
10 years of Support for Hackney people and organisations
2007 is Hackney Voluntary Action’s (HVA) 10th anniversary and sees the organisation reaching a major turning point in its history. On 1st April 2007, HVA returned to its roots as the Volunteer Centre for Hackney offering support to organisations in volunteer recruitment, retention, recognition and appreciation. HVA will also continue to be a recognised training provider, running accredited training courses for local residents and organisations.
HVA aims to become a benchmark of best practice in volunteering and organisation management through providing:
-
best brokerage services, supporting those interested in setting up volunteering programmes
-
through training, supporting voluntary groups to improve their operational effectiveness and service quality
-
by developing connections, improving services and promoting best practice between voluntary organisation
-
by representing sector needs within Hackney, to encourage the provision of more diverse resources for them, to develop new and creative working practices that can be used as a model for other organisations both locally and nationally
Over the past 10 years, HVA has worked with over 7000 volunteers. HVA will continue to provide a central access point for people to find out about local volunteering opportunities. HVA will work hard to equip organisations with the requisite skills to manage volunteers effectively.
Some of HVA’s pipe line programs include developing projects with ex offenders, older people and people with special needs. HVA has benefited from the tremendous amount of goodwill it has built with its stakeholders and will continue to build on its relationships with sponsors, partners and beneficiaries.
HVA will ensure that the impact of volunteering in Hackney is quantified in terms of its impact on the local economy. HVA will endeavour to make volunteering a pathway into employment for those who want to.
HVA believes that Hackney should have best quality services and holds the following quality standards: Investing in Volunteers, Investors in People (IiP); Volunteering England - Volunteer Centre Accreditations; PQASSO Level 3. We have successfully renewed our Investor in People Quality Mark for another 3 years, until 2009.
