Writing a Volunteer Policy
This course is for organisations / groups wishing to set up Volunteer Programme or to start recruiting volunteers. The course will provide Volunteer Managers with an overview of the essential components necessary for writing a volunteer policy. This is a practical ‘hands-on’ course. You will leave at the end of the day with a draft Volunteer Policy to take back to your organisation. An opportunity to create / improve the effectiveness of volunteering at your organisation.
Setting up a Volunteer-Run Programme
This course is for rorganisations that are run predominantly run by volunteers and how to set up the programme. Training to provide community groups with the main components needed to establish and operate a volunteer-run programme. You will learn different strategies, factors to consider, what is involved in hring a paid coordinator and many more aspects.
Volunteers & the Law: Payments and Perks
This course will provide groups and community organisations the implications of recruiting volunteers and paying volunteers. The course will cover
- Understanding the tax implications if volunteers are paid or receive taxable benefits
- Understanding the implications if volunteers who are charity trustees, asylum seekers, or on state benefits are paid or receive certain benefits
- Be aware of the law and good practice in relation to volunteer management.
Volunteers and the Law: Safety and Security
This course is aimed at voluntary sector managers, management committee members, volunteer coordinator and others with responsibility for managing volunteers. It will enable participants to identify health, safety and security by volunteers and by clients, members of the public and others affected by volunteers, and understanding and understanding the basic steps in carrying out a risk assessment.
Recruiting Volunteers
The course will give tell you all you need to know to identify how volunteers can help your organisation and to find the right volunteers for the job. Useful for organisations beginning to take on volunteers and those wishing to review their existing methods of recruitment. The course will help you answer questions like:
- what can volunteers help us with?
- where do we find willing volunteers?
- how do we ensure volunteers we recruit are capable of the job?
- how should we conduct interviews?
Motivating and Retaining Volunteers
This course aims to equip delegates with the skills and knowledge they require to effectively motivate and increase retention of volunteers. By the end of this session delegates will be able to:
- identify theories behind motivation
- understand volunteers motivation with a view to increased ‘job’ satisfaction
- demonstrate methods for motivating volunteers
- identify retention strategies for short and long term volunteers
Supporting and Supervising Volunteers
The course aims to provide participants with an overview of the key elements that are involved when supervising and supporting volunteers. By the end of the session you will have:
- discussed the differences between support and supervision and the impact they make to the volunteer and volunteer programme
- identified the key issues surrounding Employer / Volunteer relationships
- Identified the elements involved in successful delegation
- Evaluated the purpose of effective feedback
- Discussed the pros and cons of traditional steps to supervising and supporting volunteers and alternative ideas
